Thaipusam is a festival celebrated by our Malaysian Indian community. It is a day to worship the deity.
My team has a visitor from India and according to him, it seems like thaipusam isn't a big festival in India.
The speciality of Thaipusam is about its people. Our fellow friends here are dancing along with the music.
Male, female, young and old. All come for the worship. These ladies are on the walk to the temple.
A young chap obtain blessing from the elder.
Young kids are happy today. These two kids are going to have a long walk towards the temple. I am not sure what is the actual purpose of putting the silver jar on the head. It seems to be some sort of effort to get blessed or give thanks after being blessed.
Grown-up indian man blessed by elder.
Elder smash the old coconut on the floor after the ceremony. After this, the devotees walk to the temple located near waterfall.
Escort girl following the chinese devotee team. It was believe that chinese deity/teaching originated from India.
Chinese devotee getting a water bath midway to the temple from Indian helper. Good 1 Malaysia spirit.
Another chinese devotee getting water bath.
Young Indian girl on her way to the temple. Her dress is striking blue and orange.
Good father bring her daughter to feel the spirit of thaipusam.
Even toddle on pram is here too. The Minnie air balloon is even bigger than her.
Japanese young kid riding on dad's neck is here for the fun too.
My fellow Intel colleague. CE, CF, CM and CK. Hey, why all starts with C?
I am DC :)
Here are we in front of the temple. A devotee just came out from the temple and ready to mount his kawadee again.
It is a norm to smash an old coconut after a kawadee lifter comes out from temple.
Here is one of it. My camera was splashed with coconut water in order to get this shot.
Here is a picture of shoes/slippers to represent how many devotees are in the temple.
Btw, there is a paid shoe keeping service. These are those whom not paying for it only.
The street is crowed.
A funny looking kawadee. Looks like a dog with tongue out. Pretty unsual compared to the rest.
Indian sweet tooth. It is very sweet. Although I didn't try it today. I tried those in India.
Nicely stacked up. It looks really good.
Stacking the sweet tooth up like bricks.
On our way out, we saw more kawadee and devotee.
As usual for any events or celebration, there will be piles of rubbish/garbage waiting to be cleaned. No garbage bin found nearby so many people just throw it here. I hope that MPPP (Penang civil council) do a good job in cleaning up these.
Same to these egg shells on the road.
All in all, I am very happy to see the spirit of Thaipusam living and alive in Penang. I am sure Batu Caves in KL would be exciting too.
